Well, I really thought I knew what "Wuthering Heights" was about but I was quite wrong (mmm...seem to recall doing the same about "Gone With the Wind"- should really stop these assumptions!)

So if you're reading this JE because you've found the book & have never actually seen it on film (like me) - you may not want to want to know anymore so I'll "hide" my comments! Highlight below to read :o)

I had always presumed that the tale would begin with Heathcliff & Cathy as children, they'd grow up, be parted, he returns finds her married, she dies & comes back to haunt him (I was never sure whether that was in the book or just Kate Bush's artistic license) - oh how wrong I was! Well, okay the gist was right but the story was told from the aspect of the tenant Thrushcross Grange who was being told the story of Heathcliff & Cathy by the housekeeper & the spectral Cathy put in a very early appearance to the poor chap.
While I did enjoy the book I did find some of Joseph's dialogue hard to follow (& I'm a Yorkshire lass myself!) & found one or two passages confusing.

I was surprised that when I was only about a third of the way through the book Cathy died & the bulk of the tale revolved round the children of the unhappy pair & I'd always thought Cathy was a sweet tomboy type when actually she could be quite a cow....& her daughter was certainly a little madam at times too!

Glad I've read it & finally found out the "true" story of one of literatures classic novels.
