7 out of 10

I found this good-condition hardcover at the local Saver thrift shop. It contains scary stories with atmospheric illustrations by different artists. The stories inspired episodes of Stine's The Haunting Hour TV series.

Among my favorites, both for the artwork and the story: "Pumpkinhead," with a very atmospheric illustration and a nicely gruesome tale; "The Dead Body," another chilling illustration and a story that has more twists than most (and is also more upbeat than most); and "The Ghostly Stare," with an illustration that unnerved me and a story that made me want to run around and turn all the lights on!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the TV series, with comments on the specific stories.]
