Journal Entry 1 by Chellis from Las Vegas, Nevada USA on Tuesday, March 23, 2004
Really unusual and funny story. Ira Fishblatt asks his girlfriend Ruth to move in with him. When she renovates the kitchen, the roaches who have lived there peacefully, existing on Ira's less-than-perfect cleaning skills, go on the offensive. A roach named Numbers comes up with a plan to get rid of Ruth, enlisting the help of a local cocaine dealer and encouraging a romance between Ira and his neighbor Elizabeth. I am very anti-cockroach, but I had to love the roaches in this book.

Started this book today- I'm actually starting to empathize with these unloved creatures. Scary- huh? Good opening narrative on relationships I can relate to. I hope nothing bad happens to these little guys. To be continued...

What a wild ride! This novel breezed through with good story-telling and a very imaginitive author. Lots of heady themes for these little bugs to tackle and many eyebrow-raising situations. I think those that are squeamish around these insects will lighten up while reading but may ironically cringe more at the descriptive writings about sex and other adult themes. Think 1960's Jerry Lewis comedy written by Chuck Palahniuk and narrated by a cockroach. I'll definately look for more from this author. I'm interested to see the next response this book gets!

Oh my, what an interesting book. I have to say that I got lots of crazy looks when people saw/heard what I was reading, but that happens often with BC books, maybe because they tend to fall outside of the mainstream. At first, this book reminded me of an awful movie, Joe's Apartment, because it was roach-centered. It is actually much more sophisticated then the movie, however. I think I could have done without so many toilet-bowl and vagina scenes, but overall it was quite imaginative (to see things from a cockroach's perspective). PMing next reader for addy.

I really enjoyed this book - very funny, tongue in cheek stuff. All week I found myself telling people, "I'm reading this book called The Roaches No King..." Highly rcmded - thanks icekween01! PMing petaloka now.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Well crafted and very creative. Refreshingly unpolitically correct. The end smacked me upside the head. I never saw it coming. Bravo! Thanks for sharing icekween01! I'm mailing it out to sarradee today.

I've been waiting very impatiently to read this book, especially after all the great stuff people have written about it. :) I've got one ahead of it, but I hope to have it read and passed on within the next two weeks.

I too thought of Joe's Apartment when I first started reading this book. But while just as side splittingly funny, this book dared to go places that Joe's Apartment couldn't. What a deliciously disgusting, daring, imaginative, interesting, completely un-PC and just plain awesome read. Mailed to garnetfairy this morning.

Very, very interesting book. Mind-blowing, reminds me of the movie Joe's Apartment. Very hilarious and yet somewhat serious in a way. Interesting, always interesting... mailed to tuff517 09-06-05

Living in IL in one apartment after another we had our share of roaches. When I moved to TX, I experienced waterbugs, and after 6 years they still strike fear into my heart. Did this book make me feel a little more sympathy towards the roach? Yes, but only when I was reading the book! This is good writing: making someone who is panic-filled fearful of roaches feel affection, sympathy towards them. I worry now that roaches are really that clever. No more boric acid for me. Maybe I'll just leave little peace offerings around. NOT! Thanks for sharing, sending this to Jebbie74.

I absolutely loved this book! The only scary thing was that I thought I saw one of those horrible creatures in the bathroom the other night. I keep looking in the mirror and checking the toilet before sitting...it's very creepy! But definately a great read with an interesting twist on the subject of "unwanted live-in guests". I may have to hunt down my own copy of the book so the other half can read it too. PMing iguana-girl for her address. Mailed off to iguana-girl today - 11/01/2005

woo hoo! Nothing better than coming home from vacation to find a bookcrossing book waiting for me! I've been looking forward to reading this book for quite awhile and I'll get started on it shortly. Is it true that I'm at the end of the ray? Any requests for where it should go after me?

What a weird book. It was humorous, but not ha ha funny. Thought it was strange that the roach had such an interest in human lady parts. I havn't had much contact with roaches in real life, but I've seen them being raised for research and YUCK!
