When I read EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU by Celeste Ng, I wasn't sure if mentally I was ready for another book starting with a death of a child. When Lydia is found floating in the lake, her family is forced to analyze what put her there. Was it family pressure? Was it peer pressure? Was it bullying? Was it a crime? In the end, I really did not want to read about the death of another child. For me, this theme is over played in literature.
The author wants the reader to be sure you get that this is a dysfunctional family so she tells you over and over and over again that this is a dysfunctional family. The parents are living out their frustrations through their children. Their children are submissive and unhappy. I felt that the characters were stereotypical and the reader was caught in her loop. Jack was loss in this story and out of place. Does every book have to have a gay character? Guess Ng wanted to make sure that she got her point across.

Reserved for ABC VBB Removed 6/2/2020 as no one has chosen this book. I am going to send it to another BCer as a surprise wishlist book
