Found in the bookbox at casino de Montbenon near the cinémathèque. There were only four books - this one is in such good condition and looks so beautiful I could not resist.

The love of a family summer home on Martha's Vineyard, and the wrench of departure. The book is rather patchy, made up of reminiscences, extracts from the "log books" (written in by the family during each stay and also by their visitors), information about neighbours, cantankerous fittings and the water supply, shops and markets, events on the island, and some of the famous people who live or have lived there. I hope the new owners read and enjoyed it, even if they did raze the "shack" and build a large new year-round home there. But somehow I'm not sure they felt the soul of the place.

A very nice book about a lovely place.
