Shakespeare's Champion (Lily Bard Mysteries, Book 2)
7 journalers for this copy...
When Lily stumbles upon the well-built corpse of a local body builder-his neck broken by a barbell-the town's underlying racial tension begins to boil over. The white victim was somehow connected to two unsolved murders of black residents of Shakespeare-and a dogged policeman is determined to stop the killing. But it is Lily herself who may have to decide whether to stay and fight for justice, or run away one more time.

This was not as enjoyable as the first book, but I liked it nonetheless.
I also found it sometimes quite brutal and violent, more than the first novel.
I did like the new character, the "ponytail man" ;-)

And the spiral rolls on... this has turned up in Switzerland - where it will have to spin its wheels a bit as there are a few other rings in front of it. I look forward to continuing this series - thanks so much sending and making available!

For some reason, from the word go, this struck me as far more violent than the previous book. Lily, the main character, remains someone you want to tag along with (and I wish I had her efficiency when it comes to cleaning!), but there are a great many very unsavory characters and scenes. I did enjoy it nonetheless, and had trouble putting it to the side to get on with the rest of my life, but I had to take a few deep gulps to get through some of it. I'm curious to see where things will go in the next - this was here as a ring / follow-up to a bookcrossing spiral which evaporated - hopefully this version of the spiral will continue. I'll be going to the UK in two weeks so I will take it with me and send it on from there...
This was brought from Switzerland to Glasgow and now heads over to Edinburgh. At the post office they didn't find a match with the postal code - hopefully it will arrive safely! If worse comes to worst, my return address is on the parcel... Thanks so much for making this available.
Arrived safely, thank you. Hmm, post code is 5/7ths correct. Must have been my typing on my phone.
Anyway, thanks to kiki66 for arranging and PenelopeWanders for posting on. I will probably read it this weekend whilst visiting my dad.

Shakespeare's Champion by Charlaine Harris - good
Of course, no sooner do I win a dozen or so mystery books than two bookrays land on the mat including another mystery. This is the first of them and a second outing for Lily Bard, cleaner, martial arts expert and always embroiled in murders.
I've seen other reviews mentioning that this is more violent than the first. It was, but not gratuituosly so. The murders and violence all revolve around racial tension in Shakespeare and Lily's open minded nature means that she is soon caught up in the middle of it all.
My only problem with this series is that I read number four before the first and this one and as such I knew who some of the mysterious characters were and I know that at least one of the characters is going to be murdered in a future book and their story is being tee'd up.
Other than that, a nice quick and enjoyable read.

Book two of the Lily Bard series. When a man is murdered at Lily's gym, it seems like it must be related to two other recent murders in Shakespeare, and the rising levels of racial tension in the town. A mysterious dark-haired newcomer seems to be somehow connected. Lily, with ties to the gym and in and out of the homes of the many Shakespeare residents she cleans for, can't fail to get involved. A gritty murder mystery with a strong and feisty heroine.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Indeed this volume is fairly violent, but what bothered me more was the number of fights and catastrophes Lily has to go through: how many injuries, on top of her previous ones, can this poor girl sustain?
This said, I enjoyed this feisty woman character, as I did in the previous volume.
The book was mailed this morning to Icila.

Lily puzzles me. How could you take how many blows and keep it going but anyway I like the series a lot.
On its way to heartthumper. Enjoy !
