Traditional sci-fi.
Vergin Ulam has been kicked out of his laboratory because he has been carrying out his own research: he has seemed to be successful in manipulating a virus which gathers round and behaves strangely mixing chips from computers with organic matter.
He is carefully monitored to destroy everything. His lab colleague has been found out doing exactly the same, so his misdemeanour is not as career-shattering as it seems... until he becomes stubborn and decides he is not going to lose anytghing. He just injects himself with
