A magical novel, although Ivey straddles the line between mysticism and realism. I agree with Queen72 that this is quite an atmospheric read. You can see, hear, smell, and touch the Alaskan landscape which is the setting for the book. The writing is clear and beautiful. I now very much want to read Ivey's second novel, To the Bright Edge of the World.
