I quite enjoyed this novel set in a part of Wales I had been on holiday a few years back to place names were familiar to me. I liked the sort of calmness of the story even though it was a bit strange that not many characters were referred to by their names just '' the boy, the husband, the policeman'' and only towards the end do we find out their names. Despite being set in Wales it had a very Dutch feel to me (I grew up in Germany 30mins drive from the Dutch border and now while living in the UK, I deal with a lot of Dutch clients) so I did have a giggle to myself about Emilie constantly being take for German rather than Dutch. I was still thinking about the ending and only a day later or so, did the meaning of the poem at the beginning (in English) and at the end in Dutch enlighten me !

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I enjoyed this a lot, although the subject matter is melancholy. The descriptions of nature are beautiful and evoked the North Wales countryside (where I've holidayed in the past) for me.

Released at Old Gang meet up at Edinburgh Book Festival.

I enjoyed this rather strange book. Although there is a bleakness to it, there is also quiet humour throughout. The descriptions of the Welsh countryside are lovely. Very goad that I read it.
