It was hard to express my feelings about this book. I can't say that I enjoyed it--the subject matter on the whole was pretty horrific. But it is a very readable, well-written book that keeps you involved. It is a memoir about growing up in Massachusetts as the daughter of an alcoholic drug addict who wants all the same things for her child. Because she was very bright, she won scholarships to good schools and endured. An engrossing story.
