Just realized that I forgot to journal before I mailed off to Cytronella last week. Sorry!

I liked the book. Not my favorite, but still good. I truly disliked Mrs. X. Ugh! What a nightmare woman to work for! And poor Grayer! But, all in all, a good read.

Picked this one up as soon as I could, a pretty long read, it was good all in all. Has anyone ever heard the limerick poem:

There once was a man from Nantucket,
that kept all his money in a bucket,
He had a daughter, named Nan,
Who ran of with a man,
As for the bucket, Nantucket.

I just thought the Nan, Nantucket connection was werid. Well anyways I would reccomend to all nannies, past nannies, or future nannies. The end was a little predictable though.

At first I found the book too predictable and a bit too lardee-dar, but its an oddly addictive read, and very fast too, so I have finished it and must admit that there is something about it that makes you want to keep on reading until the end. You don't have to think much while enjoying it, so that makes it a great holiday or relaxing book.
Sent to tyvmdear :)

Finished reading early this morning.

What a great book. A fairly quick read and very enjoyable.
Nan is the most patience person. The things that she does for the family she "works" for,is going far and above the call of a nanny. And the crap she puts up with, I know I wouldn't be able to do it.

Thank you so much for sharing this book with me. I have PM ms-attitude-ca and I am now waiting for an address. I will put in the mail as soon as I get it.

I really enjoyed this book. Nanny put up with more BS from Mrs. X then I would have. The Nanny Diaries really went a step further by really letting people know exactly what being a nanny entails, and it's NOT just being a babysitter. I've PM'd Flicki, the next BX'er on the list and just waiting for her address

I quite enjoyed the book. A quick read, just what I needed for this week. Still, I wonder how much substance there is about the story. Besides, I didn't find it 'diabolically funny' like the NYT. Anyway, I'll send the book on to Wilmar as soon as I get to the post-office. Thanks for sharing!

7 out of 10

Finished today!

When I finally found the time to start reading it only took me two days to finish the book. What a fun and addictive read, I just couldn't stop today.

At first I thought: oh no, this one is reminding me much to much of The Devil wears Prada, a book that I read last year. And in fact both books are very alike (girl is working for evil woman-boss, takes much too long to realise this, although her family and boyfriend are already very clear about it), but still I liked this one.

What I didn't like was that Nan waited much too long to quit, and finaly she doesn't quit at all, but gets fired. If I were here I would have cast a tremendous scene: with everybody present I would have reveiled everything about Mr. X and Ms. C.

I really felt sorry for poor Grayer. Luckily the puppy could stay with Nan!

O, and I also liked the prejudicedness about The Dutch ('Porn and smoking pot' - it's true though ;-) ). But: interesting that the The Hague International court was mentioned.

Thank you WintersQT4ever for sharing. I'm sending this one on to Helly77 tomorrow.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed this. I was ready to strangle Mrs. X right from the beginning, and felt so sorry for Nan and Grayer all the way through :(

I cannot understand why people like the X's have children, when they clearly cannot be bothered with them! Grrrrrr!!! LOL :)

I am waiting for Auglaise'e addy, and will get this in the mail as soon as I get it !

I'd heard a lot of hype about this book when it was published and it sounded really good. It lived up to expectations but god what a family from hell. She was neurotic and why she bothered to have a child, probably to try and keep her marriage together, which failed dismally. He was a just a serial adulterer and as for the nanny I couldn't work out if she was an angel or just stupid. It frightening to think there are families like this out there in real life.

8 out of 10

I did not like the characters (with the obvious exception of Grayer) in the book at all. Please please tell me that the parents from hell are purely fictitious - I mean it would be a miracle that Grayer is such a normal kid if the parents are like that. Even Nanny was a bit unsympathetic - if she really would have put the kid first she would have told the mother (and the father) that their child deserves a lot more. Sometimes it seemed like one of the reasons she didn't say anything to Mrs X was the fear of never seeing the would-be boyfriend living in the same house... Mr X and Mrs X surely deserved each other. And the story with Nanny's printer malfunctioning just when she needs to print her thesis in the last minute before deadline - such a cliché which was totally irrelevant to the story. The book was - for most parts - nicely written, but the story just made me angry.

Have pm'd violetsforfurs for address.

Finished this last night. I can not believe the way some people treat their own children! I have three little one and there are times I want to run and hide lol, but this is ridiculous. Very good book though! I do think they could have been a little more creative though, it was kind of annoying reading Mr./Mrs. X all of the time, and Nanny for her name, not very imaginative in my opinion.

I'll send it as soon as I get angelfirestar's address.

The Nanny Diaries was a quick enjoyable read. I have to say, though, I thought Nanny was pretty spineless. She let EVERYONE walk all over her. I found it hard to sympathize with her, but I guess there wouldn't have been a story to tell if she knew how to stand up for herself and walk away from a losing situation.

As perfcangel already stated, I had received the book, but I usually ask for books to be shipped to my parents. Their mailbox is bigger than mine and books fit in theirs :-) That way books hardly ever get lost here.

I started reading the book yesterday, but I still have another book going (about 70 oages left). I'm at page 15, I think...

Thanks for sending the book to me, perfcangel!

It took me a little longer to read the last few pages - sorry, ababagalit! Will hopefully send it off today if the post office is still open once I arrive there, otherwise on Monday.

While at first I really enjoyed the book I soon started to feel somewhat bored. I think in the middle it got somewhat slow... Then the pace got faster again - until I got to the last few pages, and I have to say: Boring!
Well, that much for the pace...
Otherwise I have to say I liked the character of Grayer, but think Nanny took too much - I don't think any job in the world is worth this! I remember having read somewhere that what the two authors wrote about it the book is no fiction, but really happens. I think this is rather shocking!

An entertaining and heartbreaking look into another social world, a good book that I had a hard time putting down. I found the relationship between Nanny and Grayer touching. It's always funny, often touching, and surely a must read for anyone who enjoys taking care of children.
