A new to me Canadian author. Yay!
A well written dystopian novel that just didn't wow me like I thought it could. I'm not overly fond of futuristic stories but this one seemed plausible and not too science fictiony. Plus there was the promise of a child's mysterious footprints in the garden and food going missing. And there were bees.
I think the very thing that I thought would make the book more enjoyable for me was the very thing that made it less so - ordinary people living a hard-scrabble life after society collapses. No heroes. No darlings. Just the will to survive and somehow remain human.
