Caught at the Sat. Sept. 2017 meet up--took for my mum to read, she likes Nicholas Sparks

Well I need a fast read and I decided to do a bit of vetting before I turned it over to my mum. It turns out the themes in the book are not appropriate and will upset her/so not passing this one along. Some spoilers follow. Sparks has had many movies adapted into films, and Hollywood does a good job of editing the story and making the movies into commercial successes. The books on the positive have beautiful settings usually in the Carolinas and Sparks provides a lot of detail and ambiance. First read his books to get an idea/of what they were b/c he is so popular. There is a bit of a formula at work--I think in all his books after reading a few now it's getting a little rote, some of the narratives/plots/characters--personally I feel they are repetitive amongst other things, etc. This book I don't think was the strongest are best of his work--I'm not going to dwell but I think the plot had many holes, as well as narrative between the main characters, etc. It's an okay quick read, but I would say skip it and read one of his others: The Lucky One or A Walk to Remember--while adapted and tweaked by Hollywood into movies, were still better written books/formula, et al. Holding for now.

Pulled this back awhile ago for my mum, due to the books/made to film she said she wanted to read more of Sparks' books but it has been awhile. My mum does not read as much as she used to and I think some of the story line/violence at the end will agitate her more as she is older. So I'm sending in a care package via Operation Paperback.org.
