A century of secrets...
Four women live in the shadow of the Trysting Tree.
All have something to hide.

1916
A man without a memory walks away from the Somme battlefield, while a young woman grieves beneath the tree that will guard her secret for a hundred years.

2015 Ann de Freitas doesn’t remember what she witnessed when she was five. The truth lies buried in the beech wood, forgotten for forty years. Can love unlock Ann’s heart and mind?

Connor Grenville is restoring the walled garden where his grandmother, Ivy used to play. Before her death, she tried to destroy the family archive. Who was Ivy trying to protect? And why?

When a storm fells the Trysting Tree, revealing a century-old love hidden in its hollow heart, Ann and Connor begin to sift through the past in search of answers. What they discover changes everything.

“The story doesn’t start here. I need to go back. Back to a time when the beech tree still stood, when I didn’t know the truth about my family and Connor didn’t know the truth about his. Right back to a time when the twentieth century was young and the beech still kept its secrets…”

REVIEW
"This moving dual-time story celebrates the power of love to overcome the darkest memories and deepest losses. Linda Gillard proves yet again that she can write compelling stories about characters who may bow, but don’t break. THE TRYSTING TREE will keep you spellbound."
Lorna Fergusson, author of THE CHASE.

I finished this a few days ago and really liked it - makes me looking forward to the other Gillard book!
I did like the two different stories and timelines - and I liked each character in both of them.
It was good that she described a different aspect of the happenings during WW1. No war stories or battles, but what happened to the men, how they suffered from shell shock and other traumas.

it also makes me want to have a garden like that :-)

Will be off to penelopewanders asap!

As part of the same offer, I recently read and greatly enjoyed Emotional Geology, so I look forward to reading this one which arrived here in Switzerland while I was off travelling. It did not arrive alone, so I'll try to take the rings in order of when they were posted! Thanks so much for making these available, Lyzzy... and thanks, Kiki for sending!

Thanks to Lyzzybee's bookcrossing spiral, I have discovered this author, and so far, based on two out of two books read, I really enjoy her writing. This one, set partly at the time of WWI, was again intriguing and moving. The more contemporary drama, with the main character's repressed memory, felt a bit superfluous to me - one extra bit of plot that the author perhaps felt was needed to tie the reader in, whereas I was already well caught up in the story.
This goes next to a reader in the UK, so I'll try to send it from Glasgow when I go there in two weeks. Thanks so much for making this available, for sending, and for letting me discover this author!
