Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei 1: The Power of Negative Thinking
2 journalers for this copy...
One of the books that I read during my Hurricane Irma read-a-thon, when there was nothing else to do, all boarded up without electricity.
I've been wanting to read this series for ages, and thanks Veganmedusa for sending this to me for my birthday. This is a fun read, about a teacher with a rather negative outlook of life and a class of misfits. His name, Itoshiki, when written horizontally, can be read as zetsubou, despair. Instead of asking students to write about their dreams, he tells them they will never achieve any goal.
There are a lot of word play and references in the manga, and while the translator did offer some notes, I wish he had mentioned the puns in the characters name instead. For example, Meru's last name, Otonashi, means silence, and Hito Nami means ordinary. Here's a list of character names for those curious:

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Putting into the manga box.
This came back in my manga & graphic novel book box.
This was a quick and fun little book. I felt that it only introduced a few of the characters (with 32 homeroom classmates that was to be expected). I enjoyed the fact that all of his attempts at negativity aimed towards the students resulys in the opposite effect than he intended...
