Found in the obcz petit Chatelet - à reminder of the Convention in Oslo!
This is not the right cover photo, I'll take another one and upload it later.
Later: have changed the photo but when I took it didn't realise it had the shadows of my amaryllis plant leaves over it. Might try yet again.

Before I read it, I wouldn't have imagined giving 10 stars to this book, but it is wonderful, totally enthralling, with never a dull moment from beginning to end. Heyerdahl's infectious enthusiasm, intelligence and good humour seep out of each page; he makes you regret, almost, that you are not part of the crew on the raft. To think that he had to go into the jungle himself to cut down balsa trees, that he gave each of the nine logs a name, that they all survived the perilous journey, and were given such a glorious welcome when they finally reached Polynesia. He believed so firmly in his theories and writes so convincingly that it doesn't really matter whether he was right or not (in a longish epilogue he explains the colossal hassle he had to face from various experts and the other journeys he undertook in papyrus and reed boats), and I suppose that today the origin of the Polynesians can be found through DNA tests. Thoroughly recommended (and now I want to see the film).
