The story of a woman who revisits a century old crime and confronts the suspicions buried deep in her own marriage. I found that this book was at first, hard to 'get into'. About halfway through the book, I could not put it down I was completed enthralled by the book. It was a book that twisted the characters together in an intriguing way.

Being fond of Anita Shreve I was predisposed to like this book and I was not let down. Excellent tragic tale, story within a story, both interesting and about very real people. As soon as the Christmas stodge has subsided I will post it on.

Journal Entry 7 by Brookler from Powell River, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, January 22, 2006
This book is very well-written, but the story was too dark for my tastes. Very rarely, I read a book that is too disturbing and that I wish I hadn't read. This book came awfully close to that, so that I didn't want to go back and re-read foreshadowing or complex parts in light of what comes after as I usually do.
