I picked this up from my mom. I used to be a big Stephen King fan when I was younger. This book reminded me why I loved his books. It is a fun read with twists and just enough sentimentality.

It has been a while since I read a Stephen King novel. My girlfriend was entirely addicted to them. She just had to have the first edition hardcover as soon as it came out. Her bookshelves were sagging with the weight of them. She was generous and didn't mind lending them out. In fact she would thrust them at me, "You just have to read this." So I often did at least until I tired of being creeped out of my wits. This one looks not too horrifying. So I'll give it a go. Thanks Matty!

I'm glad I read this. A much gentler Stephen King than I remember from such books as The Stand, Salem's Lot and Cujo. Of course this is more a "crime" novel than a true horror story, although there were a few hair raising moments. It wasn't solely the crime stuff that enamored me; I also enjoyed the coming of age aspect and I particularly loved and was nostalgic for the old traveling carnival. It was the perfect book to read as summer winds down. I'm leaving it at one of my favourite summer places. Perhaps one of the lake's summer residents will pick it up after they shutter up the cabin and head back home.
