The subtitle in my copy: Travels through my childhood.

It is so difficult for me to make a summary! I guess it is a retelling of Bill Bryson's own childhood. It is formed by a series of anecdotes, and especially at the beginning, to news and events which sort of describe the times and people's mentality. Some of these anecdotes are really funny - the confetti bomb, the potty jars, the local fairground, the fake driving license... and others got completely lost to me, especially all those related to baseball.

It completely reads like a novel, AND a good one at that. It is quite a quick read, as the type is quite big and with plenty of white space. I must say that I am partial to Bill Bryson, although it was weird to see photographs of him as a child. The references to the Thunderbolt Kid are far and between, maybe one every 100 pages, and I so happy about that! I'd take them all away and leave only all the rest of credible anecdotes. Even the baseball ones, as they were essential to his relationship with his talented father. I also loved the short scene in which Bill crosses all the office to see his mother and go with her to the cinema. It's a pity that he didn't like those films. I can see that Bryson inherited some of that writing talent as well from both sides.

Waiting.
