I got this fair-condition softcover at a local Savers thrift shop, for another release copy.

The premise: a team of four characters, a "brutal, wordly priest" (that's him on the cover), a "brave, cheerful Monkey God", a "lecherous kappa", and the "pleasant, absent-minded" Hakkai, are on a quest to deliver a magical scroll. [The story's loosely based on Journey to the West.] The characters squabble with each other while battling youkai (and some rather nasty humans as well), using mystical powers, scheming, and flat-out fighting, and sometimes wind up fighting their own troubled pasts - or making temporary alliances with their main rivals. (In this volume, the rival team only shows up at the end - a pity, as they're in many ways more fun than the stars!)
