Juliet Ashton is a writer squashed by the power of the blank page. Her manuscript is way too late and she hasn't even found a topic to write about. Suddenly, she gets a completely unexpected letter from Guernsey because of a roundabout reason that, for me, it worked. I have bought second hand books all my life and many times I have found postcards, names and surnames, addresses, among the pages and at the back of the covers. She thinks that the Gernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society could be IT, so she leaves London for a while.

She will want to hear specially about the times during the WWII and the German Occupation, when the Society came to be.

I quite liked it. It was interesting and different. I loved how these "illiterate" villagers fooled the "literate and cultivated" Nazi officers. The connection between Juliet and the Society works for me.

What it didn't work for me at all was the "deus ex machina" ending. I don't want to discover things here, but somebody unconnected with anything at all shows up to save the day. I didn't like it at all.
