This is a very strange read. It had been a selection for my sister's Book Club. When the members complained about the book...the member who suggested it said: "that's because it is Swedish"! But, it is short, so, I read it...and agreed with my sister...a bit strange, but, I'm interested to see what others my think!

This is a bit of a strange read...it was suggested for my sister's Book Club. I'm interested to see what others think...it's not long, so, won't take up much of your time!

I picked this book up from Little Free Library #2873 on my way to the lake Saturday morning. It looked to be the perfect book to take along. Short and with short chapters. It's so easy to be distracted at the lake, whether by boating trips out on the water, the gorgeous scenery and nature , or lake neighbours stopping by. Rain will let you take in a longer read but no such weather this weekend. Despite the fact that we had numerous distractions this weekend, I did manage to devour the majority of this book.

I was fascinated by Karin and her dilemma. An unexpectedly widowed mother (although, really, being the wife of a high powered criminal, she maybe should have given some thought to what would happen if her husband was offed) with an infant that seems more like a parasite to her than a source of joy, is suddenly facing poverty when the authorities, in "following the money", decide to seize all of her assets, including her home.

She initially attempts to prevail upon the criminal "family" only to find that rather than having her back, the family has closed circle leaving her on the outside.

I've only got a few chapters to go. I can't imagine anything other than a tragic resolution but I'll soon find out.

Thanks Scarlet177!

Finished the book this evening. A most satisfactory ending.
