I have not read the book myself. I picked it out by the recommendation of The Telegraph and thought it to be an interesting approach on Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night.
Description from The Telegraph:
"Alice Hogge’s book aims to highlight the plight of a persecuted minority in England in the decades before the plot. Exciting and confusing in equal measure, her book opens in 1588 – weeks after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, a victory over a Catholic enemy that reaffirmed the English Protestant faith. Two Jesuit priests, members of “the Special Forces of Rome’s Army of Arguers”, land on a Norfolk beach. Their subsequent entanglement in the gunpowder treason was not part of their original plans, but they paid the price for their faith at the Scaffold."
