My husband picked up MY copy of this book that I MEANT to read (local small book store featured it for our June discussion book.) He noted on the back that it involved a baseball team, albeit a woman's baseball team, and thought, "Ah! a baseball book!"

Its actually an imagined look back to 1947 when author's (actual) mother played on an (actual) woman's traveling baseball team. Seems there was a dearth of marriageable men in their small town after the war, and traveling from town to town sounded like fun and a possible way to meet eligible guys! And from this premise comes the story which both book and my (actual) husband liken to the Lake Woebegon genre.
