Hallowed Murder (Jane Lawless Mysteries)

I found this fair-condition softcover at a local thrift shop, and thought it sounded interesting: during an icy Minnesota winter, restaurant owner Jane (a lesbian whose last partner died a while back) gets caught up in the suspicious death of a sorority girl. It seems that the girl had broken up with another girl - but was her death a suicide, or was she killed by the jilted lover, or by the boy her parents wanted her to marry, or by someone else entirely?
The story unfolds slowly, with hints of strangeness going on at the sorority - thefts, feelings of being watched, secrets - and leads through a variety of suspicions to a dramatic finale that was, I thought, a wee bit over the top. Oh, I applauded Jane's attempts to ensure safety - she was going to tempt the killer to confess, but in a place loaded with surveillance equipment and with a trusted friend on watch - but all her plans went for naught and in the end it was a fluke that anybody made it out alive!
I found the scene-setting quite effective, and many of the supporting characters were interesting, but it seems that many of them were tossed in to be red herrings - I'd have preferred it if they'd had more weight in the overall story. Still, it wasn't bad!

I'm adding this to the LGBTQ+ bookbox, which will be on its way to its next stop soon. Enjoy!
You've got such good taste! I've decided to steal this from the LBGT+ bookbox.
