Many thanks – Cassandra2020 - for bringing THE SIGN OF THE BLACK DAGGER to the Old Gang Meetup, Sun 12 Aug for me. My apologies for the delay in making a ‘caught’ journal entry - here is one at last!

Joan Lingard’s books for teens and young adults always draw you in because of their dramatic and complex plots some characters you cannot help rooting for and every one covers some gripping topics.

PS forgot to mention this copy is signed by the author.

Book burble: What makes an ordinary dad just DISAPPEAR? No NOTE. No CLOTHES MISSING. He just didn’t come HOME from work. WILL and LUCY are DETERMINED to track their father down.

There are clues everywhere. A SINISTER STRANGER at the DOOR. An empty office. And a two-hundred-year-old journal with a menacing BLACK DAGGER drawn on the front.

TO FIND their dad,WILL and LUCY must uncover a FAMILY SECRET that’s over two centuries old – and discover the truth about the SIGN of the Black dagger…

THE SIGN OF THE BLACK DAGGER – JOAN LINGARD (2005) | ISBN: 9780141320083 | Publisher: Puffin

Hugely enjoyable writing, uncovering and working through some troubling hidden difficulties and a significant family secret! Two stories concerning two sets of twins in the same family but set centuries apart entwine to create these intriguing and compelling adventures.

SPOILERS INCLUDED - Two different stories of the subtly insidious slide into debt are eventually uncovered, the panic of confronting that, and the resultant escalation of anxiety explored until hard won breathing space gives a chance to re-evaluate and consider ways forward. Some of the fears and perils of debt are outlined, shady deal debt collectors encountered, fascinating family history aired, the convoluted nature of espionage stumbled upon, while a haunting family secret is revealed, the value of good friends applauded, and we see characters working to find the power required to take action and fight to recover from their dire situations.

I can think of a number of different ‘on topic’ release locations for this, so watch this space to find out which one I chose.

Released 5 yrs ago (9/8/2018 UTC) at Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Released today on the Royal Mile, I left it on a coffee table outside the Scottish Story Telling Centre. The book was still in my possession as it was not chosen off my ‘FREE BOOKS’ coffee table at the Book Festival. Edinburgh is still stuffed full with happy visitors and I hope who ever found this was thrilled to find it. As the setting for the book is the Royal Mile, in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Holyrood Palace and I have ‘released’ it on the Royal Mile this constitutes a BookCrossing ‘Themed Release’ I say with great relish. A WHOOP moment of delight for we BookCrossing enthusiasts!

See the journal entry above for my – WELCOME – to the world of BookCrossing TRAVELLING books!
