I got this fair-condition hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop. It's one of only two novels written by Tiptree, and it's... unusual, to say the least! A group of people meet to witness a wave-front from a dying star as it goes nova, but many of them have ulterior motives - and the nature of the planet they're on, and of the "Murdered Star" itself, have some surprises in store as well. Beautiful creatures tortured for their tears, the whole concept of beauty itself - some pretty grim stuff here, amid the whodunnit aspects.
