I found this fair-condition softcover at the Used Book Superstore in Burlington MA, and picked it up for another release copy.
Nava's "Henry Rios" series began with this book and follows Henry, a gay lawyer in California, through decades of court cases, loves, and losses, to the satisfying series conclusion Rag and Bone. Nava's books are dark; at times it seems that the tragedies are piling up too fast, and even when Rios wins his cases the cost is often high. But the stories are very well written, the characters engrossing, the tragedies personal... and the triumphs, the moments of peace and contentment, are dearly earned. The style of the books is sort of courtroom/procedural/noir, I'd say, a little on the gritty side. I recommend them.
In this book, Rios meets a troubled young man who's struggling to avoid relapsing into a drug habit; they connect, but soon the young man turns up dead, and when Rios begins to investigate he reveals dark family secrets and a cover-up...
