WILD RELEASE NOTES:

In the Filmhouse Café meeting chums this evening and we were talking about cooking and books and I recalled this being on the BC shelf so I nipped over and got it to offer to one who has taken it away to have a look. Perhaps its next stop may be the South of England if it goes travelling on the much discussed Festival trip… my fingers are crossed for luck!

EDITED TO ADD - My review from Aug 2010: ”A mesmerising combination of glorious language and revolting imagery. I can see it is supposed to be humorous yet for me the acidic style has the bracing effect of salt water on a myriad of sword-cuts. This is searingly acerbic writing with a driving pace and it was uncomfortable reading as I found Gerald so despicable. Nevertheless Gerald and Marta are beautifully drawn, as in fact are all the players. The language is a joy but I will have to be feeling stronger to read more of Hamilton-Paterson’s writing though for sure I shall check it out.

Where to next? Mmmm, I have a couple of chums who may love this, I’ll ask.

Meanwhile… wondering if I can find some Fernet Branca to sip, as I do so love bitter herbal, medicinal tasting liquors. Hum… expect it can be found in Scotland’s best Italian Deli, Valvona & Crolla, which just so happens is very close to my flat!”

Then from September 2010: “…delighted by the wicked humour of it…”
“Sometimes the books that really stand out for me are books that take me by surprise when I have a strong reaction to them. Then, after a good slow cooking period, I later realise how good they were as I find myself raving about them to others!”
