8 out of 10

The story of a young boy who is evacuated during the war, and the gruff old man who is forced to take him in. A heartwrenching story - I read this several times and it never failed to make me cry.

Registered to pass on.

Warsaw/Poland - Received today! I'll read it as soon as possible. I've got exams right now so things are hectic, but I don't think it'll take me too long to finish it. Thanks for the card Deerskin, it's so cute!

Warsaw/Poland - Awwwww.....what a sweet book! The characters were all so wonderful! I didn't actually cry, but that's because I was in public so I just ended up blinking furiously. ;-P Needless to say, I really enjoyed it; it's a wonderful story about the power of love and friendship. Thanks Deerskin for starting this ring!

I'll be sending this, along with Eva, on to axelp soon.

Got this one just before we left on holidays. Didn't read it myself,
but my son did, and liked it.

Ready to send it on.

Update 11 August: It's in the post to laura, enjoy!

Well this was a lovely story. War is a sad thing, but it was nice that it gave William a better home.

I'm the end of the ray. I'll have to think about what to do with this book now. Thank you for sharing!

Appreciated the chance to read this well-travelled, timeless story of the effects of wartime on individuals and relationships.
(to be honest, sometimes put off by the dialect and found myself skimming quickly). Heartwarming.
Thanks to all before me!
