The book's blurb doesn't make it very clear that the three featured schools are all highly selective, so the three teachers have an almost unbelievable luxury: teaching students who want to be in the class and are willing to participate.
So the book turned out to be something different than I was expecting. I think it's more interesting this way, because as the students really explored questions of literary value, and its relevance to their lives, we get to follow along . I learned quite a bit about books I thought I already knew well, and I learned about literary analysis. I'm also making a strenuous effort to break myself of using the passive voice.
But that's one person's opinion. Future readers, what do YOU think?
