EVERY DAY THE SAME
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

Yet another book that's compared to "Gone Girl"...which seems to me to mean that:
a) it's told in multiple narratives &
b) it has a surprising twist......which leads me to....
c) the fact that you know there's going to be a "surprising twist" takes away much of the surprise!

It was quite a good read but not the thrilling, tense, unpredictable, engrossing, yadda yadda yadda....one that the cover blurb would have had me believe. The story is told by Rachel, Anna & Megan who don't seem to have a redeeming quality between them, however I'm not citing this as a criticism as these particular characters aren't meant to be likeable IMHO & to my mind certainly weren't, so good characterisation there Ms Hawkins! The story unfolds well & snippets here & there give you an inkling as to what might have happened. The ending was quite tense & I have to say for once found it quite satisfying which is a big plus in the story's favour.

For me the book was spoilt by the "Gone Girl" comparison which meant any element of surprise was ruined - I know I'm repeating myself but I think its worth reiterating as I think - though I'll never know for sure - that I would have enjoyed it so much more if I'd never read that other damn book!
