How does a gunman retire? Frank MacLeod was the best at what he does. Thoughtful. Efficient. Ruthless. But with his health failing him, how long before he's no longer of use to his employers?

A new job. A target. But something is about to go horribly wrong. And up-and-coming hitman Calum MacLean will be called upon to pick up the pieces.

Most gunmen say goodbye to the world with a bang. Frank's still here. No longer in his prime, certainly. But with decades of experience at the top of his profession. Underestimating such a man could prove to be deadly.

"The Necessary Death of Lewis Winter" was a sure fire 5 star read for me but this one didn't enthral me from the off. Initially I struggled with keeping track of who everyone was - thank goodness for the character listing which I could - & so often did - refer to!

What I liked once again though, was that it felt, to me at least, that things were happening over a short time period & also getting the sense of knowing what was going through the characters minds, of seeing how they reacted as information was fed through to them . Once again the sentences are short & snappy sentences with no time wasted with unnecessary descriptive passages or long dialogues.

After my early confusion with some of the characters I was soon hooked. As reader I knew things that the characters didn't, especially that some "facts" had been misunderstood by others & it was gripping to see how this was going to affect Frank in particular. Overall a really good read though I would say it's a trilogy that's best read in order...& I can't wait for part three.

Hi weegie, so I picked this up from the book-shelf after you left on Thu evening, 1st Sep.
Yes, I know, after saying quite categorically that I could not allow myself to pick-up ANY books. However, the loop-hole, this is on one of my wish-lists... Greetings too, to plum-crazy, the crime thriller connection, keeps on keeping on.

Yipes, its been over — good gracious — at least, two years since I attended a Book Swap meet-up! Fabulous to catch-up, big hugs!
