Thought this would be my yearly baseball book/read. Got through about half of it. Overall I found it difficult/tedious. Think they needed an editor b/c was a lot of names and details that were a bit extraneous. Spoilers.

This is memoir of a woman who had two sons of my generation, Gen-X, post baby boom--so my era of little league and pee wee hockey. Born 16 months apart they both excelled at sports -- hockey and baseball and also academically. One going to Brown and the other Dartmouth.

Her boys are signed as free agents to the Red Sox farm teams in the early 90's, but not draft picks so they spend all this time in minor league "hell" if you will. They train and play hard but their playing time is limited. Other guys scouted/drafted have the priority via the ole evil Red Sox front office. They both get antsy and frustrated. To note, this was the early 90's the pre-cybernetics data error and before Theo transformed the Red Sox. And I graduated college during this time, and I understand they were concerned for their careers i.e. the post Gulf War recession and unemployment. But they were a bit privileged via the Ivy Leagues. This wasn't exactly sink or swim for them. Most guys don't have the chance to even make the minors, although I did have a classmate recruited out of high school for White Sox Farm team. He later married the owner's daughter/so there was his job security.

Read mostly like a journal gone wrong--Todd and Tim are similar names and ages --so it was difficult for me to keep track of who was who and doing what/where. Plus we heard about everyone they ever met, where they ate dinner, her sending them bed sheets and how much it cost, her husband losing his job and patience with her etc.

Again I think it should have been more whittled down, it looks like a small press out of Rhode Island but if it's not self published/vanity I would be surprised. So I skipped to the end, one went into government service and the other become a JP Morgan VP -- so no going to "the show" but all was not lost either. Several time she notes in the text, they really did not want her taking notes/writing this book. And I completely agree.

Released 6/12/17 Community book shelf/case in cafeteria lower level, One Ashburton Place, Boston, MA 02108.
