Summer Crossing at Bookcrossing :D

I couldn't fathom what Capote found in this capricious character Grady. She is a typical representative of an upper class family kid, pampered and emotionally neglected. She doesn't know what she wants, acts on a whim and never thinks about consequences. Just a stupid girl who thinks she is the center of the world, and life must be dramatic.
It's a sad story about suicide on a whim, but ... so what? Why was Capote so fascinated about these upperclass settings? All rich brats end in a bad way? Or what is the point of this story?
It's his first one by the way, he was about the same age as Grady, when he wrote it. That is, when he started to write the first drafts.
