I really enjoyed this crime noir from the 1970s. Flawed but human detectives, a good plot line, and enough mystery in the solution to keep me guessing. I think the final plot twist I should have seen (I saw something coming but not that) but overall, a good pot boiler type read.

I claimed this at the meetup today; many thanks! I've enjoyed several Nordic detective novels recently, and it could be fun to move south to the Netherlands... I see it's from a lengthy series, so if I enjoy it I'll have lots more titles to choose from!

Later: I did enjoy this, mainly for the entertaining banter between protagonists/Amsterdam cops Grijpstra and de Gier. (The fact that bachelor de Gier has a grumpy Siamese cat to which he's devoted only added to the fun - especially when a budding romance hinged on whether the lady would take to the cat!) The mystery was interestingly twisty, with some unexpected connections and a satisfactory conclusion. (The bit where our heroes start jamming on drums and flute - only to have one of the suspects join in, for what sounded like a truly amazing set - was something I'd never encountered in a mystery novel before!)
