It's not the greatest book but it's a quick and nice read and has some really interesting aspects to it.

It makes you wonder how much of your life you have spent stuck in the past, especially your childhood, no matter how beautiful or hard it has been. And it makes you reflect on your role as a parent, how much of your behaviour has strong consequences on your children. Are there any perfect parents, any perfect childhood? Of course not. But you should be very careful not to be stuck in your past and waste all the potencial of your life (or ruin the potencial of your children).

What kind of relationship with a child and a mother share when the mother is ashamed of her daughter's skin colour? What happens when the daugther longs for her mother's touch? Can the daughter love when she meets Mr. Right? Will he choose love or his burden from the past?

Morrison knows how to weave a story, how to make charachers breathe as human beings. This might look like a small book, but inside it has a big story about children and parents. I liked it, its dark shades and everything.

I may have tried to read Jazz by Toni Morrison long long time ago and if I remember correctly, I didn't like it very much. But I'm not at all sure, if I remember right. But I didn't remember, that I actually has read her other book, Beloved, in Finnish (Minun kansani, minun rakkaani) and that book I have liked a lot. So I'm happy I took this from bc-meeting at Kuopio yesterday, thanks Mecu! Let's see what I like about this.
