CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
A wishlist tag fulfilled. Enjoy!
Appears I didn't write a JE for this when it arrived - apologies - and only noticed when I plucked it off of Mt TBR this afternoon and started reading it.
My Review: read 20 June 2018
Set in Chechnya, a Republic in southwestern Russia, during the Second Chechen War - which took place over a period of 9 years, 7 months and 3 weeks(!) - this was definitely one I wouldn't have read had it not been for the 666 - an around the world reading challenge.
Not my normal type of read, and took me much longer to get through than normal, but I was really quite absorbed by it.
The weave of relationships is masterfully done, and I found myself quite taken with a couple of them.
The foundation of this story is about a man who is determined to help a young girl, and it is really quite a beautiful story, although with the backdrop of politics and wars it is also harrowing at the same time.
A book I am glad to have read, and I learned a thing or 2 about history along the way!
