I bought this from the secondhand bookshop at Woolsthorpe Manor, the National Trust property in Lincolnshire we visited this morning. It was where Isaac Newton grew up and includes the famous apple orchard, currently in blossom . . . .
I chose it because I enjoy historical fiction, especially Medieval murder mysteries!

Amazon Editorial Review: "In Chaucer's London, betrayal, murder, royal intrigue, mystery, and dangerous politics swirl around the existence of a prophetic book that foretells the death of England's kings in this irresistible historical thriller. -- London, 1385. Surrounded by ruthless courtiers, England's young, still untested king, Richard II, is in mortal peril. Songs are heard across London -- catchy verses said to originate from an ancient book that prophesies the end of England's kings -- and among the book's predictions is Richard's assassination. To find the manuscript, wily bureaucrat Geoffrey Chaucer turns to fellow poet John Gower, a professional trader in information. Gower discovers that the book has fallen into the unwitting hands of innocents, who will be drawn into a labyrinthine conspiracy that reaches from the king's court to London's slums. As the intrigue deepens, it becomes clear that Gower may be the last hope to save a king from a terrible fate."

This is one of those books that's quite gripping when you're reading it and you keep turning pages to see what happens next and next and next . . . . but that you forget about when you're not reading it and then feel no great enthusiasm for picking it up again . . . . but then find equally entertaining when you do . . . . Odd!
Basically good. Well worth the effort, with bodies and spies and political intrigue and such like . . . .

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

To my sister-in-law who has a small collection of books she uses to raise funds for her choir's current charity, supporting sick children locally. I was pleased to add this one to her collection . . . .

Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 nearly twelve million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
