A Painted House

The hill people and the Mexicans arrived on the same day. It was a Wednesday, early in September 1952.
A fascinating story about seven-year-old Luke Chandler's life in Arkansas. Cotton harvest is in focus and there is tiresome work that everyone will participate in. In the yard there are a lot of workers inhabited, Mexicans and mountain peoples. The house that has always been unpaved suddenly gets a white border on the back. Luke will be exposed to threats as he witness two murders. This is a novel that feels real. Good characters and good descriptions. A very good book.
