I was lucky enough to win this book and three others about train travel in Canada from Canada's History magazine. I have taken a number of train trips, the most recent one being a trip to Churchill Manitoba last fall. My first trip was in the summer of 1967 on the CP line (no Via Rail in those days) from Winnipeg to Vancouver with my grandfather. It was the first time I had seen the Rocky Mountains and the first time I had seen the ocean. Quite a Centennial project! So this book is the first one I read. Lots of great stories about the challenges of building the various rail lines through the mountains. There is also a separate chapter on the various railway stations with photos. In fact, there are many pictures throughout the book. This would be a wonderful book to read while travelling through the mountains by train.
I sent this book to my dear friends JudySlump612 and DrSlump612 in the hopes that they might make a return trip to Canada to see the Rockies. Even if you don't do it this year the Rockies will be there for quite a while. Enjoy!
When you find a BookCrossing book it is yours to do with what you like. You can read it and keep it or pass it on or if you don't think it is your kind of book pass it on to someone who might like it or release it in a spot for someone else to find like you just did. Whatever you choose it would be great if you could write a short note letting us know what new adventures the book is on.

Ohh, what a beautiful book! DrSlump is still ambivalent, so he and I will have a little heart-to-heart talk tonight. I bet I could find someone who could stand to be my friend for a week in exchange for a train trip this summer.
Thank you so much, gypsysmom!
