Welcome to BookCrossing!
Thank you for picking up this book. If you’re new to BookCrossing and find this book and this site (www.bookcrossing.com), please make a journal entry to let me know that this book has found a good home with you. You may choose to remain anonymous or to join.
I hope you'll join BookCrossing (doesn't cost anything to join!) and if you do, please consider using me, earthcaroleanne, as your referring member. When you’ve finished reading this book and are ready to send it on its way again, make a journal entry if you are giving or sending this book to a known person, or a release note if you are leaving it “in the wild” again for anyone to catch. Then watch its journey. You’ll be alerted by e mail each time someone makes another journal entry. And it’s confidential (you are known only by your screen name and no one is ever given your e-mail address), free, and spam-free.
Enjoy the site, the book and hopefully the BookCrossing community. If you’re already a BookCrossing member, thank you for picking up this book.
Happy BookCrossings!

It is a few days before Christmas and Reykjavik doorman and occasional Santa Claus, Gudlauger has been found stabbed to death in his room in a sexually compromising position. The hotel manager is determined to keep the murder from his guests but Detective Elendur quickyly discovers that the placidly affluent appearance of the hotel covers a multitude of sins. It soon becomes apparent that both staff and guests have something to hide, but it is the dead man who has the most shocking secret: many years previously he was the most famous child singer in the country. It is this brush with stardom that has led to his death? Or is the murder a family matter, concerning the victim's estranged father and sister.
I am really enjoying this series. In a way it's the usual detective with family problems but I feel the murders have much more of a story to them. This one kept me guessing. They kept suggesting plausible murderers and I kept believing them.

Another themed read for December.
It's the run up to Christmas and a hotel Santa Claus is found stabbed to death in his basement room...but it soon becomes much more than that. There's shady goings on in the hotel, lots of lies being told as people cover themselves, but are they lying because they are implicated in the murder or because they are involved in the other illegalities?
Detective Erlendur is back to investigate whilst still haunted by events in his own childhood and his current problems with his daughter.
I'm not sure if this wasn't as good as the previous book or whether the translation was off kilter (it felt clunky), but whilst I read this quickly, there was 'something' missing. I don't have the next in the series. Not sure if I'll hunt it down or leave it to fate: if I come across it, I may read it, I may not. Who knows
