Will Save the Galaxy for Food

I loved Croshaw's jam-pocalypse novel Jam, and when I saw this new book at Barnes and Noble I had to pick it up. The premise: advances in space-travel technology have left all the old space-pilots out of a job, so much so that the ones who haven't given up entirely tend to haunt the spaceports, offering to guide tourists while recounting their adventures. Making things worse: a reclusive character named Jacques McKeown has made a fortune writing books about heroic space adventures - in which he uses everyone else's stories, without giving any credit. Due to this, people think that the guides are stealing *his* stories, and McKeown has become (in pilot circles, anyway) the most hated man in the universe.
So when our hero/narrator, one of the many down-on-his-luck pilots, gets a gig that requires him to masquerade as (surprise!) Jacques McKeown while entertaining the spoiled and bored teen son of a galactic gangster, he finds himself on the horns of a really big dilemma. And when his young charge manages to convince him to pick up his girlfriend for a little spin in the snazzy new spaceship that Daddy bought, things go badly - and hilariously - wrong.
Lots of rogue-running-for-his-life, glib-explanations, last-ditch rescues (or un-rescues) - it's a lively homage to pulp fiction and fandom and the price of fame.
[There's a TV Tropes page on the book.]

I'm adding this to the SF bookbox, which will be on its way to its next stop soon. Enjoy!
I received this back from the scifi book box. I am planning on a wild release on a future traveling visit.
This was such a fun read. I loved the craziness of everything going wrong and the twists were just so funny. I am going to send this book along in the ABC books starting with "W" ring.
