One Blood (Sister Conchita#2)
7 journalers for this copy...
Sister Conchita has been forced to assume reluctant command of a rundown mission in the lush, primitive Western district of the Solomon Islands. The group of three elderly sisters currently living there are rumoured to have "gone native", and as Conchita tries to grapple with these eccentric but determined old women (who come to life as interesting individuals), an American tourist is found murdered in their mission church.

I loved the Solomon islands background and everything we learn about them. Some ideas are interesting, and the couple of investigators really unusual but at some point I got bored and almost struggled to finish it. I found the plot far-fetched and burdened by too many unecessary details.

Thoroughly enjoyable and fills in a few gaps where I read number 3 before this one! Could have done with a map of the islands though!

Wow that's a well-travelled book! And I love the fact it started its travels in the French department my parents live! Life's coincidences...
One of my choices in the Round 96 of the OZ VBB. I also have the third instalment of the series but unfortunately first one is nowhere to be found, so will start with this one. In fact I have already started reading it on my way home from the meetup!
Thanks book-a-neer for delivering it in person at the meetup today.

It took me ages to get into this one but halfway through the book I found the pace. The setting and context were interesting and there's a fair bit to learn about the Solomon Islands (which let's face it I knew next to nothing about)., some colourful characters and some historical references. I found the plot a bit far-fetched but it still kept me going to the end! I have the third instalment ready (but still no sign of the first one!). That's another country ticked off for my 2024 666 Challenge. Meanwhile I will set this book aside for another BCer who is doing said challenge this year too.
