[DIFFERENT COVER]

From the back cover:

"London, 1583. Loyal courtier Simon Ames has been viciously beaten. Is it a random attack, or is he the victim of a subtly treasonous act? And why has a nonsense poem, written by the lunatic Tom O'Bedlam, suddenly become so popular? Is someone taking the meanderings of a madman too seriously? Who is Tom, and what does his ballad mean? Ames and his dubious friend Becket set out to uncover the truth, but before long they are following a trail of murder, treason and terror."

Picked up at the York BookCrossing meetup

Released 6 yrs ago (5/23/2017 UTC) at Brigantes Bar & Brasserie OBCZ / Meetup Venue in York, North Yorkshire United Kingdom

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I didn't read it and I'm probably never going to. I did try the first couple of chapters but something about the writing style was too laborious for me. I'm sure it will be better received by someone with a longer attention span than I.

I read a bit of the blurb on the back page - a recommendation from Ruth Rendell, and a quite calling this book "in the same league as Rose Tremain's Restoration and Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose". Well then, I thought. I'll give it a go. Forgot to note the latter quote was from Cosmopolitan. After reading this, I doubt their literature reviewer.

It wasn't bad, but is was nowhere in the league of Eco...
