I chose ’Humor’ as the book category simple because someone else has done it earlier and, well, there really is no alternative. But it is so wrong. There’s no humour in this book, it’s all true. This is us, we all are Mattis, we Finns. Honestly.
Telling the truth, I must add that the blurb owes a lot to Arla, Swedish dairy company. The back cover says, You just might have a tiny Matti living in you. In 1999, Swedish-Danish dairy product producer started a massive ad campaign in Finland. They had a great slogan, Kohta meissä kaikissa asuu pieni lehmä, ‘Soon we’ll all have a tiny cow living in us’. Perhaps this tiny Matti living in you is a humorous reminder of Arla cow we were supposed to have in us?

♥♥♥ One of my favorite books I read in 2018. ♥♥♥

Finnish Nightmares arrived today! I couldn't help diving in... and apparently, I have a tiny Matti living in me, too!

In the USA, I'm considered an introvert (a shy introvert) and these comics speak to that side of me. Are most Finns introverts? Or would this be something entirely different?

Thank you, Tarna! And thank you for the homemade bookmark! It's beautiful!

A Short and Sweet little book with wonderful illustrations. I was able to read this book today at our February BCinDC meet-up. I can relate to almost all of the social instances of little Matti. I too must have a little Matti living inside of me....maybe I have Finnish roots??? I Need to double check my ancestry. Thanks "Spatial" for sharing this book.

Spatial kindly brought this book to the meetup today and let us all read it. Turns out, I must be Finnish. I could relate to so many of Matti's traits, reactions, and emotions. I love the honesty within this book's pages, exposing awkward situations and what some of us think about them.

I especially loved the pages about public transportation. When someone sitting next to me gets up and moves (presumably because an empty set of seats opens up), I always wonder if there's something wrong with me! And if I'm sitting next to someone and seats open up, I feel I MUST stay there or they'll think there's something wrong with them. Once I was stuck on a Metro train sitting next to someone even though the entire rest of the car was empty because I was worried about hurting a stranger's feelings. LOL

This was such a fun read! Also the book was registered on my birthday. It's like I was meant to read it one day!

So relatable! Not all of the illustrations, because I am not entirely Finnish, but I definitely must have some Finnish blood in me, because the whole thing on public transportation was very much me. Glad to have a chance to read this little book at meet-up and talk to all the other local BookCrossers about how we relate to Matti. Be brave Matti, I feel for you, but will not hug you or make direct eye contact.

This is a funny little book. :)

In part, I found it so funny because of those from Finland saying how accurate it was. I haven't made it to Finland myself though, so I've no personal everyday experience with the culture as a whole.

But if this is pretty accurate, it's a whole country of introverts! lol I'm sure that anyone anywhere can relate to one or two of these, but taken on a whole that is definitely the mentality of an introvert. :)

Very cute stuff though. I like it! ;)
