I found this good-condition hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop, and was attracted by the Mayan-style artwork on the cover. Main character Elizabeth, an archaeologist, is recovering from a series of personal traumas by focusing on her work in the Yucatan on ancient Maya culture. But her personal troubles aren't over yet - and it seems she's also being visited by the spirit of a long-dead Maya priestess, who has things to teach her...
I liked the focus on the Mayan culture, with the nice touch of using different glyphs to ornament each new chapter. The excerpts from Elizabeth's notebooks are a nice way to insert factual tidbits without breaking out of the story. That said, I wasn't as interested in her family dynamics, and thought that the interplay of magical/mystical with real-world could have been more effective.

I left this book on a bench outside Bob's Clam Hut near the Kittery Trading Post on this warm afternoon, while stopping by for some of their tasty seafood. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
