Trade paperback. From the back: "Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offers him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming - a battle for the very soul of America... and they are in its direct path."

May 1, 2005: I enjoyed this. A very different concept. The ending took me almost as long to get through as the rest of the book though. Was a little disappointed there, but overall I enjoyed it. Will try more Gaiman. I'll be interested to hear what others think. Symphonicca took this home from the May meeting today.

Hmmmm.... well i must say, though it took me a long time to get through this book, and some of the darker stuff was a bit hard to read, I did indeed enjoy it! It was dark, mad, convoluted, heavily allegorical--- i could have used a course in ancient mythology or theology to be able to wade through and understand all of the nuances. But I liked it.

Why did i like it? I liked Shadow's stoicism, his observant and fluid personality. I loved his dreams. I loved all of the quirky charcters he ran into--- all likeable, but with a hidden edge of death and destruction-- really interesting vibe this created! I am not sure i got all of the allegorical points and subtilties of the book, but it was one of those books that i would sink into at the end of a day and enjoy. A very weird world--- definately different from mine, and so unpredictable and rich--- an amazing writer!

Anyway--- will be recommending it to people-- very glad i had the opportunity to read it!! Thanks tezzy!! :)

I have (am, as I am still reading it, but nearing the end) found this book a most intriguing and interesting read. It did keep me captivated and I was glad to have picked it up. I also felt that it was neat to think that someone had released this book out into the universe wanting someone else to reading it, has they found something profound in it to share. That in itself is really deep. I will definitely be sending a book out there to share!
Thanks to whomever dropped this book off in the women's washroom! :)
