I've enjoyed a number of Elizabeth Moon's other works, so I was happy to find that I enjoyed this novel too. I suspect that the author's background in the Marine Corps is a big part of what makes this story work so well, as we have a very natural-feeling progression of Paks skills and abilities increasing and a solid sense of the company she is part of. In many ways, this isn't all that unique of a plot, but I was so caught up in the characters and smooth, efficient writing that I hardly noticed, and it isn't something we typically get to see woman characters doing.
Heading out as one of the starting books in the Otherworldly Bookbox
I just recently finished a Science Fiction by Moon, and thoroughly enjoyed it, so thought I'd give this Fantasy a go~
