Scorpios closed their Riccarton branch a couple of weeks ago, so had a clearance sale. I missed the best of the sale, but managed to pick up a few vaguely interesting looking books from the meagre selection left on the shelves by the time I did make it in.
This one is a weird book - it's sort of a mix between a Bridget Jones-style chick-lit, and a noir detective novel, about a celebrity gossip columnist who ends up investigating the murder of a street artist. The predictably convoluted plot that gets her to that point isn't fully revealed until quite late in the book - the author does a lot of teasing about the "incident" that got the main character demoted from the newspaper's Style section; so much so that by the time of the big reveal, I didn't really care.
Other than that annoyance though, the unlikely combination of chick-lit and noir actually works surprisingly well, and the murder plot is interesting enough (though occasionally a little contrived) to keep the story moving.

Given to another bookcrosser at today's meetup.
